Saturday night’s flood!

[my Mio, the next day – in the aftermath]

It rains so hard now. Oh, and this is the day/ date: Sunday, January 11, 2009, and the time: 2.28 AM. It rained since Saturday night. I’m in my friend’s boarding house, staying in cause I couldn’t go home with my motorbike. There was (and still is) heavy rain, that I thought it was impossible to ride my motorbike through it. Well, actually it started when there was – oops, sorry, there were more than one – were leaks in my office’s ceilings so the water came in from the roof and left the whole corridor and some classes, the office, and the computer lab flooded or half-flooded. I think it’s simply because it’s an old building.

The thing is, there were these electrical appliances everywhere, like a big screen TV, computers, light bulbs (they’re electric, rite?), and air con, etc. How could you leave those things on while you have water everywhere around them? If we don’t sort this thing out, everyone will be left dead being electrocuted!

OK, back to the rain. So, seeing what happened to my office (the flood and the pouring water), I though this might be the heaviest rain from all the rain in this rainy season in Bali. Well, we had it one like this before, when at that time, the next day after that big rain, many parts and main roads of the city were filled with flood and it became headlines in the news ‘cause we never had anything like it. It is unlikely that Denpasar is the kind of city that has regular flood attack. So yeah, it was in the news.

And back to the flood. Well, we (I and my friend, Bhatari) finally managed to get through the rain by the time it wasn’t really heavy. It was OK at first, but when we got into the small alley in front of her boarding house, there was this huge pit that I didn’t expect to be that deep. As I rode my motorbike farther, the pit grew deeper as deep as my knee! And yep, as I was worried about, the engine of my Mio suddenly stopped! It was no surprised at all though; ‘cause the water was higher than the pedal (is this the rite term? Well, whatever). So we were practically drowned.

And when we arrived at Bhatari’s boarding house, the water was still knee-deep, and again, my motorbike had to face the same thing: drowned in the water! Fortunately it didn’t have to stay that way all night because now I put it on the porch, as it is higher than the ground. But still.. a bit worried if I’ll be able to start the machine tomorrow – let’s hope!
